Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a dependable, motivated, and patient-focused Ophthalmic Technician to join our busy ophthalmology practice. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment, and committed to providing an excellent patient experience, must be able to work full time. Previous ophthalmology or optometry experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with strong medical assisting experience and a willingness to learn ophthalmic testing may also be considered. Responsibilities Greet patients and prepare them for examination by the ophthalmologist. Obtain and accurately document the patient's chief complaint, ocular history, medical history, medications, allergies, and reason for visit. Perform visual acuity testing and document results accurately. Perform auto-refraction and keratometry. Perform lensometry and document current eyeglass prescriptions. Measure intraocular pressure/tonometry. Perform additional diagnostic testing as trained and assigned, which may include OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, pachymetry, topography, and other ophthalmic testing. Prepare and assist patients with dilation and other physician-directed testing. Assist physicians during patient examinations and in-office procedures as needed. Accurately enter clinical information and testing results into the EMR/EHR. Review charts for completeness and ensure appropriate documentation is available for the physician. Provide clear patient instructions regarding testing, medications, procedures, and follow-up as directed by the physician. Maintain examination rooms, diagnostic equipment, and clinical supplies. Follow infection-control, HIPAA, and patient-safety standards. Work collaboratively with physicians, technicians, front desk staff, and other members of the clinical team. Maintain efficient patient flow while providing professional and compassionate care. Participate in 2 scheduled evening shift (12:00 PM-8:00 PM) per week. Perform additional clinical duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous ophthalmology or optometry experience preferred. Medical Assistant or ophthalmic technician experience is a plus. Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology and testing is preferred. Strong computer and EMR documentation skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to multitask and remain organized in a high-volume environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Professional, dependable, and team-oriented. Ability to learn new ophthalmic equipment and clinical workflows. Phlebotomy experience/certification is a plus, if applicable to the position.
