Duties:

Conduct ophthalmic patient examinations and diagnostic imaging to assist ophthalmologists/optometrists in diagnosis and treatment planning Operate specialized medical equipment with precision and adherence to techniques Gather and document patient intake information, vital signs, medical history, and ensure accurate entry into electronic health records (EHR) systems. Assist with maintaining patient confidentiality by following strict clinical confidentiality policies and HIPAA regulations throughout all interactions. Provide direct patient care by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring a comfortable experience during examinations. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during procedures. Submit pre-authorizations for prescriptions and procedures Coordinate with outside specialists as needed for referrals Maintain the cleanliness and stock for all exam rooms Assist the onsite ophthalmologist with cataract surgery patients.

Skills:

Capability to provide compassionate and empathetic patient care regardless of age and ability Team player mentality Previous experience in a medical office setting, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry clinics is preferred but not required. Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic procedures such as eye refraction, tonometry, A-scan biometry, and the operation of ophthalmic imaging equipment Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye anatomy and physiology to accurately document findings and communicate effectively with healthcare professionals Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or EMR/EHR management tools for seamless documentation and data retrieval Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and the importance of maintaining patient privacy at all times Experience in patient service roles that involve direct care, intake procedures is highly desirable
