Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our dynamic eye care team. In this vital role, you will support the optometrists by preparing patients for examinations, assisting with diagnostic procedures, and ensuring a smooth clinic flow. Responsibilities Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with intake procedures to ensure accurate documentation. Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to support comprehensive ophthalmic assessments. Prepare exam rooms by maintaining aseptic techniques and ensuring all ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment is properly sterilized and functioning. Operate medical equipment including A-scan biometry devices, tonometers for intraocular pressure measurement, and other ophthalmic diagnostic tools. Assist with ophthalmic patient examinations by performing eye refractions, administering eye drops, and supporting the optometrist during clinical assessments. Manage electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems), ensuring accurate documentation of patient visits while maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies. Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing patient records, processing insurance claims, and handling retail sales of optical products when appropriate. Qualifications Prior experience in medical office settings or ophthalmology clinics is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology related to eye health, and anatomy relevant to ophthalmic examinations. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for managing electronic health records efficiently. Experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment including tonometers, A-scan biometry devices, and other clinical tools. Excellent patient service skills with a focus on direct patient care, ensuring a positive experience for diverse populations including pediatrics. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality while adhering to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies. Knowledge of medical billing, coding practices, and retail math is a plus but not required. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
