About the Optometric Technician Position You will be responsible for guiding our patients through the first half of their eye exams. This includes asking patients about their eye and health histories, as well as performing tests to measure their vision, ocular function, and eye health. Your role in the eye exam is central, and helps set the mood and tone for the entire visit. About the Practice Sehome Eye Care is a rapidly growing, locally owned, private practice in a beautiful area of Bellingham, Washington. You will be working with a fantastic team including one optometrist, one part time technician, three opticians, and one front desk coordinator. We treat patients ranging from pediatrics, (little kiddies) to geriatrics (65+ year olds), and everything in between. Patient needs vary greatly, from annual health checks to managing advanced diseases, specialty contact lenses, and urgent care issues. We thrive off of the positive experience that each patient has: from their first interactions with our receptionist, to the time they spend with you in pretesting and the exam room, and then seeing the optician for all of their optical needs. Optometric Technician Roles and Responsibilities Escorting patients to the exam room and verifying their medical history Performing optometric testing, such as measuring vitals and visual acuities, as well as measuring retinal, binocular and accommodative functioning Performing ancillary and supplemental testing Adapting to each patient's unique needs and circumstances Triaging urgent eye problems Preparing and sanitizing testing equipment between patients Managing the contact lens department, including ordering contact lenses and keeping our diagnostic kits well stocked Processing medication prior authorization requests Calling patients to follow-up on the progression of their treatment courses Assisting coworkers and providing support to the front desk and optical departments as needed. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment Having the willingness and flexibility to learn and adapt in a variety of situations Various other duties and projects assigned as the practice needs, consistent with a growing eye care practice.
