Summary/Objective This position will work in conjunction with the doctor and team to facilitate, support, and maintain optimum patient care. Accuracy and attention to detail are imperative. This position requires both clinical and opticianry skills, and is responsible for collecting and inputting clinical data necessary for the visual health and performance of the patient, chairside assistance, and fulfillment of patient's contact lenses and eyeglasses prescriptions in the dispensary. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Once the examination is completed the Optician takes the patient to the Optical with the doctor's verbal eyewear instructions and completes the entire transaction by continuing with the patient through the optical and/or contact lens process. Provides contact lens education, assists with Insertion and Removal Training, fitting. Presents and educates the patient on current frame and lens technology, based on the doctor's recommendations, prescription and patient's lifestyle needs. Performs lensometry. Performs seg heights and pupillary distance measurements manually and using digital technology. Trains patients on care of eyewear. Assists patients with repairs and adjustments. Is knowledgeable of insurance plans and contacts and glasses ordering procedures. Provides insurance plan and benefit counseling to patient. Orders contacts and glasses electronically. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned Performance Factors Attendance and dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments.

The employee communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the practice; able to effectively provide training to patients.

Relationships with others:

The employee works effectively and relates well with others, including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company. Knowledge of computer technology, electronic health record documentation. Knowledge of medical terminology used in documenting clinical exam findings.

Knowledge of materials and pricing:

Must be familiar with every contact lens used in the office, the manufacturer, the available parameters, and their clinical uses, as well as proper contact lens solutions for their care. Must be familiar with the contact lens fees in the office so the patient can be charged the correct amount for the contact lens service, contact lenses, and solution.

Knowledge of materials and pricing:

Must be familiar with ophthalmic lens technology, pricing, laboratory rebates, turnaround times, processes, accurate lens measurements, lensometry.

Knowledge of materials and pricing:

Must be familiar with frame inventory, frame design, branding, merchandising, pricing. Knowledge of the third party managed care insurance plans and claims procedures. This role routinely uses ophthalmic equipment and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
