Job Description

Salinas Optometric Center is looking for a friendly, motivated, and experienced Optician to join our team. We are a busy private optometry practice committed to providing excellent patient care and a great eyewear experience. We are looking for someone who is confident working with patients, knowledgeable about eyewear and lenses, and comfortable helping patients select frames while maximizing their vision benefits. Responsibilities Optical & Eyewear Assist patients with frame selection based on fit, lifestyle, prescription, and personal style Educate patients on lens options, coatings, materials, and upgrades Take accurate optical measurements, including PDs and segment heights Verify and interpret eyeglass prescriptions Adjust, repair, and dispense eyewear Prepare and submit optical orders accurately Inspect completed eyewear for quality and prescription accuracy Contact patients when eyewear is ready and assist with dispensing Process frame orders, returns, and warranty replacements Maintain organized frame inventory and displays Work with frame representatives on new orders, returns, and inventory needs Meet individual and team optical sales goals Contact Lens Training & Support Provide contact lens insertion and removal (I&R) training for new contact lens wearers Teach patients proper contact lens handling, insertion, removal, and care Review contact lens hygiene, cleaning, storage, and replacement schedules Educate patients on proper wear time and the importance of following the doctor's instructions Reinforce safe contact lens practices and when patients should discontinue lens wear and contact the office Confirm patients can successfully insert and remove their lenses before completing training Document completion and outcome of contact lens training in the patient's chart Assist with contact lens trial lenses and supplies as directed by the doctor Maintain an organized inventory of contact lens trials and training supplies Communicate patient concerns or difficulty with contact lens wear to the doctor Insurance & Patient Service Review and explain vision insurance benefits Assist with VSP and other vision plan orders and authorizations Help patients understand their eyewear options and out-of-pocket costs Provide excellent customer service from frame selection through final dispensing Work closely with doctors, technicians, front-office staff, and other opticians
Qualifications Preferred:
Previous optician or optical sales experience Knowledge of lenses, frames, measurements, adjustments, and repairs Experience providing contact lens insertion and removal training Experience with VSP or other vision insurance plans Strong sales and customer-service skills Comfortable recommending premium lens options when appropriate Excellent communication and organizational skills Dependable, professional, and team-oriented Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus What We're Looking For Our ideal candidate enjoys working with people and understands that being a great optician requires a combination of patient care, technical knowledge, attention to detail, and sales ability.
