is a nonprofit FQHC whose mission is to serve as a community-centered provider of services to improve health, education, and economic opportunities for individuals and families. We have 4 locations serving the community across Marysville, Yuba City, and Wheatland, CA.
Job Purpose:
The Optometrist provides comprehensive primary eye and vision care within a community clinic setting. This provider is responsible for examining patients, diagnosing visual and ocular health anomalies, testing binocular functions (depth perception, focus, and coordination), and prescribing corrective lenses. The Optometrist manages ocular diseases within their legal scope of practice, coordinates timely referrals for specialized secondary or tertiary care, and collaborates effectively with the multidisciplinary Harmony Health team.
Optometrist Responsibilities:
Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities within the scope of optometry
Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan
Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids contingent upon proper professional licensure
Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases subject to state scope of practice regulations and valid credentials
Chart documentation according to clinic standards using Electronic Health Record charting, specific forms documentation, referrals and ordering specific tests. Documentation of acute and chronic problems, including medication as needed
Follow-up on specific disease categories and no-show evaluations
Health Education coordination for patient follow-up for specific health education issues
Refer to approved medical protocols and/or guidelines for treatment
Referring to Ophthalmologist if needed
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications, Experience and Characteristics:
Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited school of optometry
Active state optometry license maintained in the jurisdiction of practice
National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) certification
Current BLS certification
Proficiency with diagnostic equipment including phoropters, slit lamps, retinal cameras, and tonometer systems
Strong interpersonal communication to translate complex medical findings into accessible patient instruction
Meticulous attention to detail for precision clinical data tracking and precise lens prescribing

Environmental/Working Conditions:
Generally, the working conditions are good with little or no exposure to extremes in health, safety hazards, and/or hazardous materials. This person must have the ability to travel as required to work with staff at other locations.
