Resident Advocate (August 2026)Position Description The Resident advocate plays a pivotal role in providing comprehensive support and assistance to unhoused individuals and families residing in our shelter. The Resident Advocate's primary responsibilities are to assess the needs of each resident, develop individualized plans, prepare a pathway to freedom in financial management, and coordinate services and resources to help them achieve stability and transition to permanent housing. This position requires compassion, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals and families and various community partners.

Salaried/non-exempt Position Responsibilities 1. Provide relationship and trust building with residents. 2. Develop and implement individualized plans in collaboration with individuals and families, setting realistic goals and timelines for achieving housing stability. 3. Develop a financial plan based upon past debt, current debt/income ratio, needs vs wants collaboration, and a goal of financial stability. 4. Provide ongoing support and advocacy to individuals and families, connecting them with appropriate services and resources such as housing assistance, employment support, healthcare, childcare, and education. 5. Monitor the progress of individuals and families towards their goals, regularly reviewing and adjusting plans as needed. This could include multiple resident advocate meetings per week. 6. Facilitate access to mental health (and substance abuse treatment, if needed) services for individuals and families as necessary. 7. Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution support to individuals and families experiencing difficulties within the community living environment. 8. Collaborate with program staff and external partners, including social service agencies, healthcare providers, schools, and employers, to ensure coordinated and holistic support for individuals and families. 9. Maintain accurate and confidential records, documentation, and statistical reports in compliance with agency policies and funding requirements. 10. Participate in regular team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in the field of resident advocate and homeless services. 11. Serve as a liaison between individuals and families and community resources, advocating for their needs and rights within the larger social service system. Requirements High School Diploma/GED required Associates or bachelors degree in a human service-related field preferred At least (2) years' experience in related field Financial literacy background preferred Reliable transportation Ability to build relationships with residents and community programs Knowledge of Microsoft Office and able to quickly learn new systems Some weekends and holidays are expected Benefits include: Health insurance Paid select holidays and Paid time off Flexible schedule
