About:
The Full-Spectrum Doula at CHOICES plays a vital role in providing compassionate, knowledgeable, and proactive support to abortion and prenatal/OB patients, with a particular focus on minors and out-of-town patients. This support is delivered both in-person at the clinic and through telemedicine platforms, ensuring comprehensive care throughout all phases of treatment. The Full-Spectrum Doula will collaborate closely with CHOICES licensed Social Workers and clinical staff to enhance patient care, ensuring individuals receive holistic, wraparound support in alignment with the organization's mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
: Abortion Care Support Provide non-clinical emotional, psychological, physical support before, during, and after abortion procedures. Support and educate individuals accompanying patients. Support and advocate for minors, out-of-town patients, and patients requiring specialized assistance, including navigation of legal aid, travel and logistical needs. Recognize emotional and mental health needs and make timely referrals to the Counseling Department as appropriate. Participate in post-procedure follow-ups via telehealth or individual visits. Prenatal & OB Care Provide education and support to prenatal patients throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period. Help patients prepare for childbirth and understand available options. Collaborate with clinical and counseling staff to ensure seamless, patient-centered care. Attend births if requested at the hospital. Telemedicine & Remote Support Provide virtual doula support for patients who cannot attend in person. Maintain consistent contact with remote patients to offer ongoing assistance and ensure continuity of care. Patient Advocacy & Navigation Attend community and statewide meetings as appropriate. Assist patients in accessing essential services such as transportation, lodging, financial resources, and legal aid. Advocate for patient rights and autonomy, especially for vulnerable populations. Establish connections with community resources and referral networks. Education & Empowerment Facilitate individual or small-group educational sessions on reproductive health, abortion, and prenatal care. Develop or contribute to patient-friendly informational materials and digital resources. Make visits to Shelters, Community Centers, and other facilities that house patients.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Certification or training in doula services (preferred) with 1+ years of experience as Abortion Doula Enrolled as NYS Medicaid Doula Service Provider and Credentialed with Healthplans Must have an NPI number Continuing education in Doula competencies Empathy, patience, and calm demeanor Ability to work independently and as part of a team Spanish speaking a plus Competitive Salary based on experience, qualifications, and participation with Health Insurance Plans.
