Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS
Required :
Medical Assistant Certification from one of the following (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT); Ability to work well as part of the interdisciplinary team in the treatment and care of sick and/or terminally ill patients and their families.
Preferred :
2 years' experience working with patients and their families. Associate degree or higher in a healthcare related field.
Lic/Reg/Cert:
CMA
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)/ RMA
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT) CCMA
  • National Health Career Association (NHA)/ NCMA
  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Medium to high physical and mental demand capabilities required. Must be able to work independently as well as with co-workers and patients/family members.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and coordination to provide guidance to the cancer patient from screening to survivorship. Coordinates patient request for information regarding the disease process, expected side effects of treatment and community resources. Maximizes treatment adherence by coordinating with patients and a multidisciplinary team. Tracks and reviews orders, medical tests, and medical procedures and follows those results to provide timely decision-making information for the providers. Functions in an organized and time conscious manner. Maintains necessary professional standards for employment. Understands the side effects of procedures and treatments and coordinates the management of side effects under the directions of the physician. Supports the patient during difficult decision-making periods. Participates in the appropriate division of these job functions with other patient navigation staff with direction and guidance from providers and management.
