Job Description

Major Responsibilities:
A. Provide safe, efficient patient transports 1)Provides transportation to inpatients for their scheduled procedure in Interventional Radiology/Patient Care Center 2)Provides cart and/or wheelchair to transport patients 3)Maintain patient safety at all times 4)Delivers patients to appropriate destination 5)Physically assists patients off and on carts, wheelchairs in accordance with established hospital safety procedures B. Distribution of wheelchairs, carts, and other commodities to and from assigned areas 1)Pick up and delivery of lab specimens and pharmacy (meds in emergencies when unable to be used by tube system) 2)Picks up and delivers medical records (routine and stat) from and to and nursing units C. Provision of basic patient care for in-house patients and outpatients 1)Identifies patients by checking name and following department procedures 2)Use proper telephone etiquette and addresses all patients using "guest relations" standards regarding the use of Mr., Mrs. or Ms. 3)Assists inpatients and outpatients with changing clothes responding to basic needs 4)Observes patient receiving procedures responding to their needs 5)Maintain appropriate confidentiality of patient information 6)Assists technologists or nurse with general care including assisting the patient as defined by the physician order 7)Greet and update patients and family members regarding procedure times and progress D. Identification and documentation of changes in patient status and patient flow by communicating appropriately according to department standards 1)Transportation of radiology reports and/or films/CDs between the Emergency Department and the Radiology Department as needed 2)Transports films/CDs within radiology to the file room and may deliver copy films/CDs to the units 3)Document on log sheet appropriate information on patient's transport status. 4)Notifies appropriate staff of patients departure and return 5)Documents written communication of patient delays on requisition and communicates with charge staff if delays occur. E. Provision of basic equipment and supplies 1)Assumes responsibility for the safe use of equipment, such as: wheelchairs, carts,portable oxygen tanks, IV poles, and other transport equipment 2)Returns all equipment to appropriate location in Imaging to assure availability for next use F. Participation in self development by attending inservices and educational programs appropriate to the goals and needs of the department 1)Maintains CPR Certification status 2)Initiates call for Code Blue if patient should code while in transport 3)Attends inservice programs on equipment use and operation 4)Attends all mandatory safety inservice programs 5)Utilization of Safe Patient Handling devices and techniques 6)Attends department meetings 7)Attends annual restraint training Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 6 month related work experience(transport preferred)
  • 6 month computer background with
CRT or Data Entry Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Position may be exposed to contagious diseases, bio-hazardous material and hazardous chemicals Ability to carry, bend, reach, stoop, push supply carts with equipment, patient supplies, and specimens, to and from their destinations. Ability to lift very heavy weight requirements according to DOL definitions. Ability to asses working condition of equipment Incumbent in position must conduct themselves in a courteous and professional manner at all times Ability to work weekends This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e. understand child growth and development; normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
