Seasonal Recreation Leaders SDCEA is seeking fun, energetic individuals for seasonal Recreation Leader positions working with elementary-aged children and supporting community events at our local recreation center. Hours vary between 1:00 PM and 6:15 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend shifts for special events. We're looking for positive role models who are enthusiastic about working with children and committed to maintaining a safe, engaging environment. Candidates should demonstrate responsibility, follow and enforce safety policies, and be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification upon hire. Pay rate is $16.90-$17.50/hour. PRIMARY PURPOSE
To assist the Program Coordinator with planning, implementation, and supervision of all recreation activities in accordance with Recreation Department and SDCEA objectives.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
o Implement children's programs set up by Program Director. o Supervise, assist and participate with children during Before/After School Program and summer activities. o Organize, lead, instruct and referee games. o Demonstrate the use of equipment and explain techniques of activities to increase children's knowledge or competence. o Enforce Camp and Recreation Department policies to guide, conduct, maintain discipline and safeguard the health of the campers. o Assist Program/Activities Coordinator in implementation of activities and on field trips. o Supervise and assist children during Day Camp swim sessions. o Set up and clean after recreation activities are over including sweeping or vacuuming floors. o Attend staff and safety meetings monthly. o Perform other related duties as needed or requested by the Supervisor.
AMOUNT OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position receives regular and frequent supervision and instruction from the Program/Activities Coordinator. This position performs tasks in accordance with specified procedures.
INTERACTION WITH OTHERS
This position interacts constantly with the Program/Activities Director and occasionally with Recreation Manager as well as other recreation department personnel daily and interacts constantly with participants in recreational activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no internal supervisory responsibility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing and frequent, repetitive use of hands and fingers. This position requires occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching above and below shoulder level with hands or arms. The incumbent must be able to stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift and carry up to 40 pounds. The position also requires good close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires the incumbent to work both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is usually a park setting at the swimming pool and on field trips. Incumbent is exposed to varying weather conditions, which can frequently be hot, humid, wet, cold and/or windy. The position occasionally requires long days and unusual hours. Position is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or chemicals related to the swimming pool. A moderate to loud noise level is typical for the work environment of this job.
USE OF DISCRETION AND INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
This position is responsible for using sound judgment in the case of emergency or non-emergency issues while the Program Coordinator or Recreation Manager is absent. Discretion to be used daily.
EFFECT OF POSITION ON ORGANIZATION OR ON ORGANIZATION'S CUSTOMERS/CLIENTS
This position represents the company daily and must portray a professional appearance and demeanor.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education:
Requires knowledge of organized sports and recreational activities. o
Experience:
1-2 years' experience working with children in sports or athletics preferred. o
Communication Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent public relations skills are required.
o Mathematical skills:
No special math skills required.
o Computer skills:
No special computer skills needed. o Reasoning ability and other skills: Requires good organizational skills and customer service skills. o
Certificates/licenses:
Requires First Aid and Adult, Child, Infant CPR certifications.
