As Needed We are seeking a reliable, adaptable, and highly motivated Casual Pharmacist to join our team. In this per diem role, you will provide critical operational support on an as-needed basis to cover peak business hours, staff vacations, sick leave, and holidays. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medications while delivering exceptional patient care and maintaining strict regulatory compliance. Must demonstrate flexibility to pick up variable shifts, including short-notice call-ins, weekends, and holiday rotations. This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy.
Experience/Qualifications:
  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio, or eligibility
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Actively coordinates on a daily basis, the provision of high quality, comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients of the hospital.
  • Responsible for performing multiple medication distribution functions (computerized order entry, CPOE verification, IV admixture preparation, ect.)
  • Responsible for oversight and direction of technicians' medication preparation and distribution activities.
  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience a preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities:
  • Review and verify medication orders within the hospital's Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for accuracy, proper dosing, drug interactions, and checking for patient allergies.
  • Provide clinical consultations regarding drug selection, dosing adjustments (renal/hepatic), and pharmacokinetic dosing per hospital protocol.
  • Partner with physicians, nurses, and dietitians to optimize complex drug therapies (e.g., IV antibiotics, nutrition support, etc)
  • Notifies the appropriate medical/nursing staff whenever drug therapy is questionable.
  • Oversee the preparation of sterile intravenous (IV) medications, ensuring strict adherence to USP <797> and USP <800> cleanroom standards.
  • Maintain absolute adherence to federal, state, and local laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including the handling of controlled substances.
  • Oversee and direct the daily workflow of pharmacy technicians, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
  • Monitor and manage decentralized automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Pyxis, MedDispense) to ensure timely medication availability throughout the facility.
  • Assist with inventory management, ensuring high-value or controlled medications are properly logged, tracked, and securely stored during your shift.
  • Manage dispensing of prescriptions for hospital employees.
Skill/Ability:
  • Accurately reviews and interprets medication orders
  • Prepares accurate and complete patient profiles
  • Reviews profiles for correct drug , dosage and route of administration
  • Ensures that no adverse drug duplication or drug-drug interaction exists
  • Ensures that patient allergies are reviewed with respect to any medications prescribed
  • Efficiently perform other professional duties including, but not limited to, safe procurement, preparation, labeling, distribution and control of all drugs
  • Notifies the appropriate medical/nursing staff whenever drug therapy is questionable
