Job Description The inpatient pharmacy technician works under the supervision of a pharmacist and assists in the preparation of medications for patients.
Primary responsibilities include:
Receiving and processing medication orders from patient care units Entering medication orders into the pharmacy computer system with accuracy and attention to detail Preparing medications and generating appropriate labels for dispensing according to established protocols Delivering medications to patient care areas in a timely manner Maintaining drug inventory in dispensing areas and restocking supplies as needed Maintaining accurate and complete records of all pharmacy transactions and medication charges Processing medication charges for services rendered and assisting with billing procedures Verifying medication accuracy and performing quality assurance checks to ensure patient safety Handling controlled substances in compliance with federal and state regulations Communicating effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare team members regarding medication-related inquiries Maintaining confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations Operating and troubleshooting pharmacy equipment and technology systems Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Requires high school diploma or GED. Requires a Pharmacy Technician License from the State of Michigan. 6 months pharmacy experience preferred. Must have the ability use a computer keyboard and type approximately 25 words per minute. Must be able to work with a wide variety of people under sometimes stressful situations, and be motivated to provide high quality patient care.
