Oncology plays a critical role in patient care and operational excellence.
Operating with a high level of independence, they perform complex technical, clerical, and compounding procedures according to strict medical, legal, and professional pharmaceutical standards. They are responsible for exercising professional judgment during medication preparation, ensuring accurate sterile compounding, delivering age-specific care support, and maintaining seamless workflow collaboration within the infusion center pharmacy department. A typical day for a Pharmacy Technician
Oncology may include: Prepares sterile intravenous admixtures, clearly explains the process, and positions hazardous and non-hazardous products for safe patient delivery
Operates automated dispensing systems, Pyxis machines, biological safety cabinets, and compounding tools necessary to ensure a safe and accurate diagnostic and therapeutic procedure environment
Assist pharmacists and clinical teams during compounding runs and medication tracking by auditing, circulating, or monitoring cleanroom activities
Sets up sterile trays and essential compounding supplies following aseptic technique, handles hazardous materials, and reviews inventories to assist with waste management
Calibrates, maintains, and adjusts laminar airflow hoods, and reports equipment failures or environmental deviations immediately to leadership
Monitors and calls out automated inventory levels, alerting the pharmacy management team immediately to any changes in stock or expired product conditions
Utilizes compounding tracking systems and hospital software to enter accurately identified and verified records of mixtures, and retrieves old batch logs when necessary
Demonstrates working knowledge of pharmacy protocols including
USP 797, USP
800, math calculations, and generic-trade name relationships
Collaborates professionally in an ambulatory infusion and cancer center environment, working in close cooperation with nursing, medical, and technical staff
Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and the ability to assume multi-task duties and function under significant time pressures

Oncology opportunity: Graduate with a High School Diploma or equivalent credential
Must hold and maintain active registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Jersey Board of Pharmacy
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is required within 6 months of employment
Strong baseline knowledge of sterile product preparation, including antineoplastic and hazardous compounding workflows
Prior experience working in a hospital pharmacy setting or a sterile cleanroom environment is preferred
Available for a full-time, Monday through Friday daytime schedule rotation
