Pharmacy TechnicianJob Description This role supports a high-volume local pharmacy by accurately processing and filling prescriptions, coordinating with healthcare providers and insurance companies, and delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities Communicate professionally with healthcare providers, including doctor offices, to clarify and verify prescription information. Coordinate with insurance companies to resolve claim issues, prior authorizations, and coverage questions. Input prescriptions from electronic and hard copy sources into the pharmacy system with a high level of accuracy. Manually process prescription orders, ensuring all required information is complete and correct. Fill prescriptions safely and accurately according to established procedures and regulatory requirements. Perform data entry for prescription orders and related patient and insurance information. Manage a daily prescription volume of approximately 500 scripts, with 250-300 prescriptions processed in the latter half of the day. Support inventory control by ensuring items are ordered, received, checked in, and properly stocked. Provide responsive and courteous customer service to patients and healthcare partners. Work collaboratively with other pharmacy team members to maintain smooth workflow and timely prescription processing. Adapt to a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Assist with other pharmacy-related tasks as needed to support overall operations. Essential Skills At least 1 year of pharmacy technician experience in a retail pharmacy setting. Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail. Experience in pharmacy operations, including prescription processing and filling. Customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Familiarity with healthcare and retail pharmacy workflows. Basic understanding of insurance processes, including claims and prior authorizations. Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain productivity under time pressure. Willingness to work full-time within the specified shift hours. Certification as a pharmacy technician is not required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using RX30 pharmacy software. Experience handling insurance claims and prior authorization requests. Comfort working with a variety of patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives. Strong teamwork skills and willingness to support colleagues. Reliable communication skills, including proactively updating the lead technician about scheduling needs. Interest in learning all aspects of pharmacy operations in a supportive environment. Work Environment This position is based in a busy local pharmacy, working in the closed-door section where there is constant activity and a steady workflow. The pharmacy handles a high volume of prescriptions each day, and team members are always engaged in meaningful tasks. The owner is actively involved in day-to-day operations, contributing to a hands-on, supportive culture. The team consists of approximately 35 employees, including about 15 full-time and 20 part-time staff, creating a cohesive and collaborative environment where you are never working alone and always have colleagues on shift with you. Schedules are published on the 15th of each month, and the lead technician is highly accommodating when team members communicate their needs. This is a full-time role with typical shifts of 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Initial training for the first couple of weeks typically runs from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. The environment is fast-paced, supportive, and focused on teamwork, continuous learning, and high-quality patient care. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westfield, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
