Job Description

a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } The Pharmacy Technician, Trainee provides pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System by assisting with the organization, stocking, preparation, and distribution of medications under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week on the evening shift (2:30 PM to 11:00 PM) . The schedule includes every other weekend and a minimum of two holidays per year . Placement into the appropriate job title and salary level will be determined based on the candidate's individual experience, education, and certifications. Responsibilities Filling Assist with filling medication orders using proper labeling, counting, and stocking procedures. Initial and date products as required. Assist in preparing oral medications for the correct patient to ensure administration at the appropriate time while following proper medication preparation techniques. Distribution Participate in medication distribution, including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts, and controlled substance deliveries in accordance with department policies and state and federal regulations. Retrieve discontinued medications and return them to the appropriate pharmacy area, processing credits when necessary. Maintain positive and professional service relationships throughout the medication distribution process. General Communicate effectively with hospital personnel, patients, and visitors by telephone, in person, or in writing. Refer all drug information questions to a pharmacist. Ensure medications are stored safely and securely in accordance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment. Practice proper hand hygiene in both the pharmacy and patient care areas. Utilize pharmacy computer systems to process and maintain patient information and records. Maintain required documentation, including eyewash station logs, refrigerator temperature logs, perpetual inventory logs, and other records as needed. Complete point-of-sale transactions and follow established cash-handling procedures. Comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, FWA, and PBM requirements. Perform responsibilities in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors. Perform other duties as assigned.
