Position Details Job Title Phlebotomist/Lab Tech Job Type Full-Time Location Laboratory Salary $21.00 - $30.00 per hour Job Description Demonstrates care and compassion to all patients and visitors. Provides courteous and professional assistance to other staff members and physicians. Performs venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently. Performs arterial punctures once properly licensed. Documents specimen collection and tests ordered in the LIS. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements. Processes specimens for in-house and sendout testing. Assists with clerical duties as needed. Helps ensure an orderly and sanitary environment in the laboratory. Roles & Responsibilities Displays concern and compassion for patients and their supporters. Displays courteous, professional manner toward staff and guests. Communicates clearly with patients and caregivers. Properly identifies patients before collecting or accepting specimens. Properly labels and identifies specimens throughout the workflow. Knows and follows specimen collection requirements. Communicates stat or unusual situations to the lab scientist. Uses correct, effective, efficient phlebotomy techniques. Processes specimens promptly and correctly. Uses the EMR and LIS to manage specimens and orders. Manages time and tasks to maximize overall efficiency. Knows when to seek guidance and refer to other professionals. Takes an active role in quality assurance and improvement. Demonstrates knowledge of all sources of risk and error. Use precautions, practice controls, and other safety behaviors. Keeps equipment and work areas in an orderly, sanitary condition. Communicates incidents and hazards promptly to supervisors. Maintains proper certifications with a minimum of prompting. Understands privacy laws and rules, follows privacy practices. Helps with ancillary duties (stocking supplies, clerical tasks, etc.) Grooming and hygiene are consistently professional. Demonstrates initiative - looks for work and solves problems. Functions effectively as a member of the laboratory team. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Skills California Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1 license. California Certified Phlebotomy Technician 2 license required within one year of employment. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer knowledge required.
