Orthopedic Physician Assistant
Job Description
Overview Mixed office and OR working with a single orthopedic surgeon, possibly two, splitting the week between the two. Offices in East Setauket, Riverhead and possibly Commack. Surgery at St Charles Hospital and private surgery center. Call responsibility but minimal at 1-2 nights per month, one weekend every 3 months. Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient evaluations including physical examinations, vital signs, and medical history reviews related to musculoskeletal conditions. Assist orthopedic surgeons during surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols. Administer injections such as corticosteroids and botulinum toxin treatments to aid in pain management and functional improvement. Perform diagnostic evaluations including interpreting imaging studies like X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans relevant to orthopedic diagnoses. Manage acute pain cases by developing treatment plans, prescribing medications within scope of practice, and monitoring patient responses. Qualifications Valid certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) with current licensure in the practicing state. Demonstrated experience working within orthopedic or musculoskeletal settings; hospital experience preferred.
