Position Summary Shadrick Kralik MD PA is seeking a qualified and motivated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide overnight hospitalist coverage at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. The Night Hospitalist APP will independently evaluate and manage inpatient admissions, cross-cover existing hospitalized patients, respond to acute clinical issues, and coordinate care throughout the overnight shift. The APP will practice under the supervision and clinical oversight of a designated supervising physician while exercising independent clinical judgment within their licensure, scope of practice, hospital privileges, and established practice protocols. This position follows a consistent 7-days-on / 7-days-off schedule , working from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM . Essential ResponsibilitiesOvernight Inpatient Coverage Provide comprehensive overnight medical coverage for hospitalized patients. Independently evaluate, admit, and manage new inpatient admissions under the supervision of the designated supervising physician. Perform histories, physical examinations, medical assessments, and treatment planning. Initiate appropriate diagnostic testing, medication orders, and treatment interventions. Manage routine and complex inpatient medical conditions within the provider's scope of practice and hospital privileges. Cross-Coverage and Acute Clinical Issues Respond promptly to nursing calls, patient concerns, changes in clinical status, and urgent medical issues. Evaluate and manage acute changes in patient condition and other medical concerns arising during the overnight shift. Initiate appropriate diagnostic evaluation, treatment, monitoring, and follow-up. Recognize clinical deterioration and initiate appropriate interventions, escalation, and physician notification when indicated. Participate in rapid response or emergency clinical situations as required by hospital policy and provider privileges. Clinical Communication and Coordination Communicate effectively with nursing staff, supervising physicians, consultants, emergency department personnel, patients, and families. Coordinate specialty consultations and additional services when clinically appropriate. Provide clear and complete handoff communication to the daytime hospitalist team. Maintain timely communication with the supervising physician regarding significant admissions, clinical deterioration, complex cases, or situations requiring additional oversight. Documentation and Compliance Complete accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record. Comply with hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, credentialing requirements, and Shadrick Kralik MD PA protocols. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and applicable regulatory requirements. Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical performance initiatives as requested. Qualifications Current, unrestricted Florida Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license. Current national board certification appropriate to the provider's discipline. Current, unrestricted DEA registration/license appropriate to the provider's scope of practice. Eligible for and able to maintain medical staff privileges at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Current BLS certification. ACLS certification required if required by hospital credentialing standards or assigned clinical responsibilities. Prior inpatient, hospitalist, emergency medicine, acute care, or critical-care experience preferred. Experience independently evaluating and managing hospital admissions strongly preferred. Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently overnight while appropriately utilizing supervising physician support. Ability to manage multiple clinical priorities in a fast-paced inpatient environment.
