A Note From Shemin Gupta, MD Physician Profile:
https://www.flcancer.com/staff/shemin-gupta-md/ Hi! I'm excited to welcome an experienced oncology APP to our team. I see patients alongside the APP team, making it easy to discuss questions, treatment decisions, and changes in clinical status in real time. We use NCCN guidelines and UpToDate daily and value direct communication, sound clinical judgment, and mutual respect. We are looking for an APP with a team-first mindset : someone who takes ownership of their panel, communicates proactively, follows through reliably, and recognizes how dependable teamwork affects patients and colleagues. We value shared accountability, mutual support, and the sustained effectiveness of the entire clinical team. The Role Your dedicated outpatient oncology panel will average approximately 75 completed patient encounters per week : typically about 15 visits per day over five days or 18-19 visits per day over four days , with experienced clinical staff supporting workflow and care coordination. You will have day-to-day clinical ownership of your panel within a collaborative, physician-led model, with the attending physician on site, seeing patients, and readily available for questions and second opinions throughout the clinic day. Clinic days follow a predictable core schedule , with reasonable flexibility to accommodate patient care and team needs. Following your own patients creates greater continuity, stronger relationships, and more confident clinical decisions. Familiarity with each patient's baseline also supports efficient visits, inbox management, and documentation without sacrificing quality. Weekend Coverage Weekend coverage is shared evenly among the four APPs, with each APP participating in approximately four weekends per year . The attending physician is also on service during these weekends. Weekend responsibilities consist of in-person rounding at two to three hospitals, with a combined total of 12-15 patients per day . What You'll Do Evaluate patients and develop evidence-based assessment and treatment plans Monitor treatment response, laboratory results, symptoms, and adverse effects Manage treatment-related toxicities and supportive-care needs Educate patients and families with warmth, clarity, and compassion Complete accurate, timely clinical documentation Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, infusion staff, and support teams Collaborate with the attending physician and APP team whenever additional input or a second opinion would support patient care What We're Looking For At least three years of experience as an APP in medical oncology Current NP or PA board certification Current Florida license or eligibility to obtain Florida licensure Strong oncology knowledge, sound clinical judgment, and a consistent focus on patient safety Experience managing a comparable outpatient oncology panel while maintaining high-quality care and complete, accurate, timely documentation Ability to communicate complex clinical information to patients and families with clarity, empathy, and professionalism Reliable, collaborative approach with proactive communication, shared responsibility, and consistent follow-through Commitment to staying current with evolving oncology evidence and guidelines AOCNP certification is encouraged but not required at the time of hire. We will support the successful candidate in obtaining this certification during employment. We also coordinate two APP CME opportunities in Orlando with Neil Love each year.
