Division Chief of Vascular Surgery The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley - 4.3 Edinburg, TX Job Details Full-time | Non-tenure 3 days ago Benefits Retirement plan Qualifications Doctor of Medicine BC/BE English Surgery Medical License College faculty experience Full Job Description Number of Vacancies 1 Location Edinburg, Texas Division/Organization Division of Health Affairs Appointment Period for Non-Tenure Position 1 year Tenure Status Non Tenure Track FTE 1 Scope of Job The UTRGV School of Medicine Department of Surgery is recruiting a board certified or board eligible vascular surgeon to be core faculty and serve as Division Chief of vascular surgery in the Department of Surgery. Leadership experience in academic vascular surgery is preferred. Core faculty duties will include direct patient care, scholarly activity, and faculty development. Active participation in the education of undergraduate medical students and graduate medical education programs is required. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects vascular surgery and endovascular therapy. The candidate will play a vital role in the growth and development of vascular surgery care in the Rio Grande Valley.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and grow a vascular division encompassing collaborations with the School of Podiatric Medicine at UTRGV and partnering hospitals in the Rio Grande Valley Drive clinical program development and regional referral growth aligned with UTRGV priorities. Advance a sustainable research enterprise, including clinical trials, translational research, and extramural funding Recruit, mentor, and retain faculty, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and academic advancement Partner with departmental and institutional leadership to strengthen education, innovation, and multidisciplinary vascular care. Minimum Qualifications MD degree with current Board certification, or eligibility for certification in Vascular Surgery. Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical Board full license/ABS board certification from a Vascular Surgery Fellowship / Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency and completed an ACGME accredited residency program and qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery at the UTRGV School of Medicine and appropriate hospital staff appointments. Discipline Specific Required Qualifications Texas Medical Board full license/ABS board certification in Vascular Surgery/Residency completed at an ACGME accredited residency program. Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate should have: A proven record of clinical excellence Experience in an educational environment Outstanding communication skills Demonstration of strong commitment to the education of residents and medical students is essential. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
