Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a wide variety of duties involving administering radiation therapy to patients using specialized equipment and technical skills under supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of an approved school of Radiation Therapy.
Experience:
No previous work experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Good command of the English language, both verbal and written. Ability to work well with patients, family members, physicians, visitors, coworkers, and others. Ability to work positively and with a caring attitude towards patients and their families who are often under physical and/or emotional stress. Intermediate computer operational/software skills.
License/Certification/Registration:
Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years. Current registration as a Radiation Therapist(RTT) with the ARRT(T)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general supervision from the Administrative Director of Radiation Oncology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Checks diagnosis, prescription, chart and patient identification. Explains planned treatment to patient including means of communication during treatment and procedure to follow if problems arise during treatment. Prepares room and equipment, according to prescription, including immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, etc. Observes radiation safety measures for patients and personnel. Maintains visual audible communications with the patient during treatment. Operates and performs CT simulation procedures/equipment in an effective manner. Performs daily duties in an accurate and timely fashion. Performs patient timeout per department policy. Observes treatment area for skin changes, discusses with patient any unusual side effect or emotional problems being experienced. Notifies physician in charge of same. Assists as necessary with ordering supplies. Maintains complete records as required. Complies with and performs Quality Improvement. Complies with all policies and procedures. Maintains patient markings. Performs scheduling and other clerical duties to maintain efficiency throughout department. Observes radiation safety measures for patients and personnel. Performs safety checks on equipment to insure proper functioning, and reports problems to physician in charge and supervisor.
