In this vital role, you will design and implement personalized recreational therapy programs that promote physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being. Whether working with seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those recovering from illness or trauma, your expertise will foster healing, independence, and joy. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your skills in a variety of settings including community and home based programs. Responsibilities Develop and execute comprehensive recreational therapy plans tailored to individual needs, interests, and medical conditions. Conduct patient assessments to determine appropriate therapeutic activities and set achievable goals. Facilitate engaging group and individual therapy sessions utilizing techniques such as art therapy, music therapy, dance therapy, yoga, equine-assisted therapy, swimming, and other creative modalities. Incorporate specialized approaches for populations including auto and work related injuries, seniors with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, individuals with autism or developmental disabilities, patients with PTSD or behavioral health challenges, and children requiring special education support. Manage intake procedures and maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collect data on patient progress through structured assessments and modify therapy plans accordingly to optimize outcomes. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nurses, social workers, case managers, and family members to coordinate care strategies. Lead crisis management efforts when necessary and ensure safety protocols are strictly followed during all activities. Engage patients in activities that promote physical activity such as dancing or swimming while fostering social interaction and emotional expression. Maintain detailed records of sessions, progress notes, and behavioral observations for ongoing case management and reporting purposes. Promote a positive environment that encourages participation and enhances mental health through group therapy sessions focused on behavioral health issues. Requirements Valid certification as a Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) from the National Recreation Therapy Certification Board or equivalent credential. Proven experience working with diverse populations including auto and work related injuries, seniors (geriatrics), individuals with disabilities (including autism), pediatric patients, or those receiving hospice or dementia care. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare documentation standards (including HIPAA compliance), and medical records management. Demonstrated expertise in therapeutic modalities such as music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, yoga, equine-assisted activities, and aquatic therapy. As well as community based therapy. Experience in behavioral health counseling, crisis management, diagnostic evaluation, case management, and mental health support strategies. Ability to assess patient needs accurately through intake interviews and ongoing evaluations; skilled in developing individualized treatment plans. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and engagement with patients of all ages. Physical ability to participate in active therapies including swimming and dancing; comfort working in private homes, the community, assisted living environments or hospice settings is preferred. Knowledge of working with people with work and auto related injuries, autism spectrum disorders or developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
