Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) at Henry's Fork Surgery Center will provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care across the perioperative continuum, including pre-operative, intra-operative (Circulating, depending on experience/training), and post-operative (PACU) phases for ophthalmic surgical patients. This role requires a strong commitment to patient safety, excellent clinical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-operative Care:
Assess patient health status, including medical history, allergies, and current medications. Educate patients and families about the surgical procedure, anesthesia, and post-operative expectations. Ensure all necessary pre-operative documentation and consents are complete. Prepare patients for surgery, including IV insertion and vital sign monitoring. Intra-operative Care (Circulating):
Circulating Nurse:
Manage the operating room environment, ensuring sterility, proper equipment function, and patient safety. Document care, communicate with the surgical team, and assist with patient positioning and preparation. Post-operative (PACU)
Care:
Monitor patients closely during recovery from anesthesia, assessing vital signs, pain levels, and surgical site. Administer medications as prescribed and manage post-operative discomfort. Provide clear discharge instructions to patients and their families. Educate patients on medication management, wound care, and activity restrictions.
Patient Safety & Quality:
Adhere to all ASC policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as AORN, ASCRS, and other relevant guidelines. Maintain a sterile environment and practice strict infection control measures. Accurately document all aspects of patient care in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain a strong focus on patient safety.
Collaboration & Communication:
Communicate effectively with physicians, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare team members. Provide compassionate and respectful care to all patients and their families. Report any changes in patient condition or concerns to the appropriate medical staff promptly.
Qualifications:
Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Licensure:
Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in an acute care setting, preferably in an Operating Room (OR), PACU, or critical care unit. Experience in an ophthalmic setting or ambulatory surgery center is highly preferred.
Skills:
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Proficiency in administering medications and performing nursing procedures. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems. BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a circulating nurse in an ophthalmic OR. Experience in PACU/recovery room nursing. Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) or PACU nursing (CPAN/CAPA) is a plus.
