Job Overview:
The school nurse is responsible for providing healthcare services to students within the school setting, ensuring their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This role involves assessing student health needs, administering first aid, managing chronic health conditions, promoting health education, and collaborating with educators, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health and academic success.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
Bachelor's or Master's in Nursing with appropriate DESE license. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. Strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills. Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check. Reports to: Building Principal

Performance Responsibilities:
Conduct health assessments of students to identify any health concerns or conditions that may impact their academic performance or overall well-being. Provide immediate first aid and emergency care to students who are injured or become ill during school hours. Administer medications and treatments as necessary. Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, or epilepsy. Coordinate care with students' healthcare providers and ensure accommodations are in place to support their needs. Monitor and maintain records of student immunizations to ensure compliance with state and school district requirements. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other school personnel to address student health concerns and provide support as needed. Communicate with parents and healthcare providers regarding student health issues and treatment plans. Coordinate and conduct health screenings, such as vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings, to identify potential health issues early and facilitate appropriate interventions. Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students, including documentation of assessments, treatments, medications administered, and communications with parents and healthcare providers. Participate in school crisis response teams and provide support and guidance during emergency situations. Stay informed about current trends and best practices in school nursing, attend professional development opportunities, and maintain licensure and certification requirements.

Ability to work in a normal classroom/office and school building environment. Ability to move freely about the building to perform duties with staff.
