Job Description

GRCSU - Nurse Substitutes- GRCSU is currently seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Nurse Substitutes for the 26-27 school year. We are looking for licensed RNs to join our team at Middletown Springs Elementary School, Wells Village School, Poultney Elementary School, Poultney High School, Proctor Elementary School, Proctor High School, West Rutland School, and Rutland Town School. Nurse Substitutes temporarily fill in for a school nurse, providing direct health care and administrative support in the absence of a regular nurse. The Nurse Substitute delivers nursing care to students and staff while maintaining a safe, healthy school environment. They ensure continuity of school health services, support student well-being, and uphold compliance with health regulations while acting as a trusted health resource for the school community.
Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Care & Assessment:
Attend to students immediate health needs, including injuries, illnesses, and chronic disease management; provide education and communication with families
Medication Management:
Administer daily medications per physician orders, maintain accurate records, and comply with state requirements
Policy & Compliance:
Communicate and facilitate school health policies (e.g., food, field trips, athletics) and ensure compliance with state mandates, student screening, and documentation
Case Management:
Provide case management for students with special health needs
Emergency & First Aid:
Respond to emergencies, perform CPR/AED, and manage anaphylaxis or other acute conditions
Recordkeeping:
Maintain health records, medication logs, and incident reports; submit required forms and reports
Communication:
Liaise with parents, teachers, medical providers, and district personnel
Environmental & Safety:
Monitor and report unsafe conditions; support school emergency action plans
QualificationsLicensure:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license;
Experience:
Minimum two years of recent medical experience; school-based or pediatric nursing preferred
Skills:
Strong assessment, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced, often interrupted environment Work EnvironmentWorks in a school health room or clinic setting.

Requires frequent interaction with students, staff, and parents; maintains confidentiality and professional boundaries
