Registrar Summary:

This position is responsible for accurately creating patient accounts within the Hospital Information System. The individual validates demographic information provided by patients at the time of service and carefully reviews existing records to prevent duplicate medical record numbers, helping protect data integrity and patient safety. This role also provides exceptional customer service and communicates professionally with physicians, hospital departments, patients, and their families.

Responsibilities:

Serves as an information resource by answering telephone calls, relaying messages, and assisting and directing visitors. Accurately registers all patient types by collecting complete demographic, insurance, and billing information in accordance with regulatory requirements and the responsibilities assigned to the position. Obtains patient signatures on all required documents and verifies insurance eligibility through applicable payer systems. Informs patients and their families of applicable copayments, deductibles, and coinsurance amounts due at the time of service. Collects patient payments, issues receipts, posts transactions, reconciles daily cash activity, verifies cash balances, and prepares receipts for deposit. Documents all registration and patient-related activity accurately and promptly in the Hospital Information System. Updates patient demographic, financial, and compliance information in the Medipac system. Uses designated systems and resources to proactively complete patient registration, insurance verification, and related functions. Communicates with patients and their families in a professional, confidential, and compassionate manner, using tact and diplomacy. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with patients, families, physicians, hospital departments, and members of the public. Provides additional departmental coverage as needed to support operational and patient-service needs. Welcomes constructive feedback from the Patient Access Supervisor and applies it to daily responsibilities and performance. Performs all duties in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, organizational objectives, quality-assurance practices, and safety, environmental, and infection-control standards. Maintains compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, The Joint Commission requirements, and all other applicable regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

Education A high school diploma or GED is required. Experience Previous experience in a clerical office or healthcare setting is preferred. One to two years of customer service experience is required. Skills and Abilities Candidates must be able to work cooperatively and professionally with patients, members of the public, colleagues, leadership, and individuals at all levels of the organization. Exceptional organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills are required. Basic computer keyboarding and 10-key skills are required. Training and Competency Candidates must successfully complete Epic Clerical Training and pass the Epic Registration competency assessment.
