Job Description

Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Encompass Health, is seeking a Speech Pathologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with communication and swallowing disorders, developing individualized treatment plans that support optimal rehabilitation outcomes. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, educate patients and families, and document progress in accordance with regulatory and hospital standards. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing evaluations for adult and geriatric patients in an inpatient rehabilitation setting Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans focused on functional outcomes and patient-centered goals Provide direct therapy for speech, language, cognition, voice, and swallowing disorders, adjusting interventions based on patient progress Document assessments, treatment sessions, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately and timely in the electronic medical record Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, participating in care conferences and contributing to overall rehabilitation goals and discharge planning Educate patients, families, and caregivers on communication strategies, swallowing safety, and home exercise or maintenance programs Utilize standardized assessments and outcome measures to track patient progress and inform clinical decision-making Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and implementation of best practices in speech-language pathology Provide guidance, mentorship, or training to students or newer clinicians as needed, supporting a collaborative learning environment Maintain compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, and applicable federal, state, and accrediting regulations Required Skills Speech-language and swallowing assessment Cognitive-communication evaluation and treatment Adult and geriatric neurorehabilitation Dysphagia management and diet modification Development of individualized treatment plans Use of standardized tests and outcome measures Clinical documentation in electronic health records (EHR) Interdisciplinary team collaboration Patient and family education Evidence-based practice in speech-language pathology Time management and caseload prioritization Voice and speech intelligibility treatment Cognitive-linguistic rehabilitation Clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis
