Position Type:
Independent Contractor (1099) | Flexible Schedule ABA of Southwest Virginia is seeking a compassionate and motivated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our Therapeutic Consultation team. This position provides an opportunity to work with children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by developing practical communication strategies that improve independence and quality of life. Rather than providing traditional outpatient therapy, this position emphasizes consultation, caregiver education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and individualized recommendations that support communication across home and community environments. Essential Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive communication and functional communication assessments. Evaluate communication barriers and develop individualized consultation recommendations. Provide caregiver and staff training on communication supports, visual systems, AAC implementation, social communication, and functional language strategies. Make recommendations regarding communication supports, environmental modifications, and adaptive strategies. Collaborate with families, Support Coordinators, Direct Support Professionals, and interdisciplinary teams. Participate in person-centered planning meetings when appropriate. Complete documentation, assessments, progress reports, and recommendations in compliance with Virginia Medicaid Waiver and DBHDS standards. Monitor progress and revise recommendations based on individual needs. Qualifications Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Current Virginia SLP license. Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred. Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems is a plus.
