Job Description
Centerpoint Health seeks a Certified Surgical Tech, First Assist to support surgeons in a busy OR serving underserved populations. This role performs first assist duties, prepares and maintains a sterile field, manages instruments and equipment, and supports safe, efficient procedures. The tech collaborates with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia, and support staff, documents care, reinforces patient education, and upholds infection control and safety standards. Responsibilities Provide first assist services to surgeons during operative procedures Prepare, maintain, and monitor a sterile field following infection control standards Select, manage, and account for surgical instruments, sponges, and equipment Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping in the ORSupport hemostasis, wound exposure, and suturing under surgeon direction Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, nurses, and support staff for safe care Document intraoperative care and implant/ instrument usage in EHRParticipate in OR turnover, room set-up, and equipment checks Support patient education and postoperative instructions as directed Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives Required Skills Surgical first assist techniques Sterile technique and infection control OR instrumentation and equipment use Patient positioning and draping Intraoperative suturing and hemostasis Electronic health records (EHR) documentation Pre- and post-operative patient care AORN and AST standards knowledge Communication with multidisciplinary teams Emergency response in surgical setting
