Full-time , on site. 6:30 a.m. to about 3:00 p.m. No call, no weekends. Independence Surgery Center is a new ambulatory surgery center in Independence, Missouri, owned and funded by the surgeons who operate in it. No private equity. No hospital system. No DSO. When something needs to change here, you talk to the owners. We are hiring the surgical assistants who will open it. Why this place exists Medicaid patients, Medicare patients, and patients with special needs who cannot be treated in a dental chair get turned away by most surgical practices. The wait runs into months. Kids with infections. Adults who need an OR and have nowhere to go. Two surgeons decided to stop referring those patients into a line that never moves and built a surgery center instead. That is the whole reason this building is here. It is not a side program, and it is not going to be 5% of the schedule. The role You assist a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon (DMD, MD), on every case. Room and instrument setup, instrument handling, intraoperative monitoring, recovery, discharge. The pace is fast. The volume is high. That is the job. What is different about working here You will not sterilize instruments or clean rooms. Separate sterile techs do that. Your hands are for assisting. No behavior management. Every patient is under general anesthesia. And you are not walking into somebody else's system. We open late October, early November. How the trays get set, how the room flows, how we hand off to recovery, that gets decided in the first few months by the people doing it. What you need Experience in a surgical setting. Oral surgery, a medical OR, or a clinical dental practice where you worked around surgery at pace. Prior oral surgery is a plus. You have to like surgery. The blood, the field, the parts most people would rather not watch. This matters more than anything else on this list. If that is not you, you will be miserable here. What we cannot teach in a week is how a surgical room runs. You need to understand pace and sequence and staying a step ahead of the surgeon, or be ready to learn it fast. What we train Intraoperative monitoring, scrub and instrument handling for our cases, our recovery and discharge process. Starting rate is $25 to $30 per hour depending on surgical experience. If you are a strong chairside dental assistant without surgical experience, we will consider a 90-day training rate of $22, stepping to $25 or above on competency sign-off.
