Job Description

Find your calling at Mercy! Under the direction of the perioperative leader, the Surgical Services Assistant supports quality patient care by preparing procedure rooms, maintaining equipment and supplies, transporting and positioning patients, and collecting routine clinical data. This role works closely with the surgical team, recognizes changes in patient condition, and helps maintain efficient, safe workflows throughout the department.
Position Details:
Required Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Preferred Education Additional healthcare-related education or training preferred. Experience No prior experience required. Previous experience in a patient care, perioperative, hospital, environmental services, or healthcare support role preferred. Licensure None required. Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or may be obtained within 90 days of hire. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification may be required based on the location of employment.
Other:
Minimum Physical Requirements Regularly pushes, pulls, and/or lifts up to 50 pounds. Stands and walks for prolonged periods during each shift. Requires frequent gripping, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting. Safely performs patient transport, positioning and other physical support tasks. Safety and Risk Management Follows Mercy policies and procedures related to safety, confidentiality, patient rights and regulatory requirements. Applies infection-prevention practices consistently. Promotes a safe patient environment, including compliance with fall precautions, patient identification, restraint management and safe-patient-handling practices. Participates in quality-improvement activities that support safe, effective patient care. Technology Uses department-specific technology to complete daily tasks and communicate effectively, including computers, pagers, zone phones and Rover devices, as applicable. Accurately enters and communicates patient data and other required documentation. Why Mercy?
