The Surgical Services Aide (SSA) provides support to the surgical team before, during, and after surgical procedures. Responsibilities include preparing operating rooms and procedure areas, ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are available and properly functioning, assisting with patient transport and positioning, supporting room turnover, maintaining cleanliness and infection prevention standards, and performing related duties to facilitate the safe and efficient operation of the surgery center. Duties/Responsibilities Prepares operating rooms and procedure areas for scheduled surgical cases by ensuring appropriate equipment, supplies, positioning devices, and other necessary items are available, clean, functional, and appropriately prepared prior to procedures. Assists with transporting patients to and from the operating room, preoperative area, recovery area, and other designated locations. Assists the surgical team with safe patient transfers and positioning according to established procedures and under the direction of qualified clinical personnel. May assist with preparation of patients and the surgical environment under the direction and supervision of licensed clinical personnel. Assists with maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and efficient operating room environment throughout the surgical procedure. Obtains and delivers additional supplies, equipment, fluids, and other items requested by the surgical team during procedures. Properly handles and transports contaminated instruments, equipment, linen, and waste in accordance with infection prevention and safety standards. Assists with room turnover between surgical cases, including removal of used supplies, waste, linen, and equipment and preparation of the room for the next procedure. Cleans and disinfects operating rooms, procedure areas, equipment, reusable surgical instruments, and environmental surfaces in accordance with infection prevention policies and manufacturer instructions. Assists with inventory & equipment management by maintaining appropriate stock levels of surgical supplies, linens, fluids, and other commonly used items. Reports shortages or supply needs to the appropriate personnel. Checks expiration dates, and removes expired or damaged supplies. Assists with the safe handling, movement, and maintenance of equipment, and reports malfunctioning, damaged, or missing equipment to the appropriate department or supervisor. Documents or records assigned activities, including supply, equipment, cleaning, sterilization, or other required records, as applicable. Performs all job functions in a HIPAA-compliant manner and complete work according to applicable quality, safety, infection prevention, compliance, and regulatory requirements. Functions effectively as an engaged member of the Cascade Surgicenter team. Maintain positive communication, collaborate with departments and individuals as needed, and adhere to all company policies. Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge/Skills Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond appropriately to changing priorities. Demonstrates attention to detail and commitment to patient safety, infection prevention, and confidentiality. Required Education, Certifications, and Experience Previous experience in a hospital, ambulatory surgery center, healthcare, sterile processing, environmental services, or other clinical support setting preferred. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Physical Requirements Requires extensive mobility, standing, and walking. 90% of time spent pushing, pulling, lifting equipment; lifting and turning and assisting patients. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials; PPE must be able to be used as appropriate.
