Job Description

Summary:
Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
Responsibilities:
Assists nursing staff in direct patient care, including preparation, transport, positioning, and draping of patients for surgery.
Monitors and accounts for instruments, sponges, and supplies throughout each procedure to ensure patient safety.
Verifies that surgical instruments and equipment are functioning properly and promptly reports or addresses any issues.
Contributes to a safe and supportive environment by adhering to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards.
Collaborates with the sterile processing team to decontaminate, prepare, and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies.
Anticipates the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently during procedures while maintaining strict sterile technique.
Prepares the operating room by setting up sterile fields with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies tailored to each case.
Handles, labels, and processes surgical specimens according to established protocols for safe and accurate delivery to the laboratory.
Precept and mentor new staff members, fostering skill development and support orientation and onboarding.

Required Work Experience:
One (1) year of experience required.
Other Information:
Certified Surgical Technologist certification (CST or TS-C) is preferred.
