Essential Functions & Responsibilities OR Preparation:
Set up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies based on the specific procedure and physician preference cards.
Sterile Field Maintenance:
Maintain a strict sterile field throughout the surgical procedure, adhering to Universal Precautions, asepsis, and sterile techniques.
Surgeon Support:
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and supplies accurately and efficiently.
Instrument Care:
Handle, inspect, clean (point-of-use), and sterilize surgical instruments according to manufacturer instructions and hospital policy.
Patient Safety Counts:
Perform and document precise sponge, needle, and instrument counts in collaboration with the circulating nurse.
Patient Care Support:
Assist with patient positioning, draping, and transfers under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN).
Efficiency & Maintenance:
Support the ongoing accuracy of physician preference cards and procedural documentation; restock supplies and prepare rooms for subsequent cases.
Compliance:
Maintain regular and reliable attendance, and comply with all hospital policies and standards. Qualifications & Requirements Education (One of the following is required): Graduate of an accredited Technical School Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program. Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences.
Experience:
0 to 2 years of operating room surgical technician experience (Great environment for both recent graduates and developing professionals!).
Certifications:
CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) required. BLS (Basic Life Support) required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong expertise in surgical techniques, instrumentation, and sterile processing. Exceptional ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational, time management, and workflow efficiency skills. Solid knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, safety, and infection control protocols. Effective communication skills and a team-oriented mindset to collaborate seamlessly with the perioperative team.
