General Scope of Responsibility:
The surgical technologist prepares the operating room (OR) by sterilizing equipment, setting up surgical instruments, and ensuring a sterile field. During surgery, they anticipate the surgeon's needs, passing instruments and holding retractors. They also maintain sterile conditions and conduct instrument counts to ensure patient safety. Essential Functions
•
Preoperative Setup:
Preparing the operating room (OR), sterilizing equipment, and setting up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, medications, and solutions.
•
Intraoperative Assistance:
Passing instruments, sponges, and sutures to surgeons; holding retractors; and anticipating surgeon needs.
•
Sterility Maintenance:
Maintaining the sterile field and adhering to infection control policies.
•
Instrument/Supply Count:
Performing crucial counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after surgery to prevent retained foreign objects.
•
Specimen Care:
Preparing and handling tissue specimens for lab analysis.
•
Postoperative Care:
Cleaning and sanitizing the operating room, and preparing it for the next patient. Required Skills and Qualifications
•
Education:
Completion of an accredited surgical technology program (certificate or associate degree).
•
Certification:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
•
Technical Knowledge:
Understanding of aseptic techniques, sterilization protocols, and surgical procedures.

Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy surgical trays. Attention to

$41.19 - $49.60 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
