GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Ultrasound Manager. The Ultrasound technologist's primary job function is to perform and record diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies according to regulatory and departmental protocols. Is responsible for ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality of records. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required Completion of Certificate Program or Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required
Licensure:
ARDMS registered or ARDMS registry eligible/registered in Abdomen or OB/GYN within one year of hire required. Second registry required as determined in consultation with Ultrasound Manager within 2 years of initial hire required. If a failed attempt was made at passing the first or second registry, an extension may be granted by manager. BLS within 90 day introductory required

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Assess physician's orders to ensure correct exam. Obtains and documents patient medical history information. 2. Properly identifies patient. 3. Determines extent of exam and archives images to PACS system. 4. Discusses imaging information with radiologist and other physicians. 5. Assists physicians during procedures as needed. 6. Behaves in a professional manner at all times (includes not abusing telephone privileges, breaks, socializing, and being consistently punctual etc.). Acknowledges and adheres to the Standards of Behavior handbook. 7. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field. 8. Requests equipment service as needed. 9. Assists in training new or less experienced employees. 10. Maintains clean work area and equipment as well as par level stocking. 11. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy 12. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's 13. Performs other duties as assigned. Why SOMC?
