San Leandro, CA Job Type:
Full-time A Little About Us Washington Avenue Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (WAVES) is a locally doctor-owned emergency and specialty hospital serving the East Bay, founded by longtime veterinary clinicians and leaders who previously built their careers at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists (BAVS). When BAVS closed its doors, our founding team came together to make sure the East Bay didn't lose access to high-quality emergency and specialty care. As a locally owned hospital, decisions here are made by the doctors and leaders who actually practice medicine on our floor — not from a corporate office. Located in San Leandro, our hospital offers easy access to Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco — with the food, culture, and outdoor access of the greater Bay Area right outside our door. You'll Never Practice Alone At WAVES, our emergency service is backed by a full specialty team, including Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Surgery, working alongside us. Collaboration is central to how we practice — whether that's a quick hallway consult, shared case management, or hands-on mentorship from doctors who built their careers on this kind of teamwork. You'll be supported by: Experienced ER doctors Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Surgery specialty teams Highly skilled technicians and support staff A culture that encourages questions, learning, and teamwork The Facility & Medicine Our hospital occupies the former BAVS location in San Leandro, equipped to support a wide range of emergency and specialty cases. We emphasize high-quality medicine, efficient workflows, and cross-department collaboration to get the best outcomes for our patients and their families.
You can expect:
A diverse and interesting emergency caseload Advanced diagnostics and treatment capabilities Strong technician utilization and support A team-first approach to patient care Scheduling & Work-Life Balance We understand the intensity of emergency medicine and prioritize flexibility and sustainability. Specialty services run Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with emergency care available 24/7. Opportunities available for day, swing, and overnight shifts Flexible scheduling options Collaborative approach to building schedules that work for you Who We're Looking For DVM or equivalent from an accredited institution Internship training preferred Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset A passion for emergency medicine and high-quality patient care Both experienced ER veterinarians and motivated early-career doctors are encouraged to apply. Compensation & Benefits We believe great medicine starts with strong support and meaningful benefits. Competitive salary with performance-based incentives Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance Generous continuing education allowance and paid time off Coverage for licensing and professional dues Employee wellness programs, including access to an on-site clinical social worker Why WAVES? If you thrive on the variety and challenge of emergency medicine — but also value mentorship, teamwork, and balance — WAVES offers a place where you can grow without burning out. Join a locally owned hospital, founded by doctors who've been in your shoes, where your voice matters and your well-being is a priority.
