Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate, motivated Associate Veterinarian to join our growing urgent care team. Our practice focuses on providing high-quality, same-day veterinary care for dogs and cats with illnesses and injuries that require prompt attention but may not necessarily require a visit to a 24-hour emergency hospital. This position is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys a varied caseload, problem-solving, and practicing high-quality medicine in a fast-paced but supportive environment. You will have access to in-house diagnostics, digital radiography, ultrasound, oxygen support, and other tools needed to efficiently evaluate and treat urgent cases. Our urgent care model allows veterinarians to practice emergency and urgent medicine without the overnight schedule typically associated with traditional emergency hospitals. Responsibilities Evaluate and treat dogs and cats presenting for same-day urgent medical concerns, including vomiting and diarrhea, wounds, lameness, respiratory disease, urinary problems, toxin exposure, allergic reactions, pain, and other acute illnesses or injuries. Perform thorough physical examinations and develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans based on each patient's needs. Manage more serious or emergent presentations, including initial stabilization and determination of when referral to a 24-hour emergency or specialty hospital is appropriate. Utilize in-house laboratory testing, digital radiography, ultrasound/FAST scanning, and other diagnostic tools to efficiently evaluate patients. Perform minor surgical and procedural care when appropriate, including wound management, laceration repair, abscess treatment, urinary catheterization, and other urgent procedures. Provide appropriate sedation, anesthesia, analgesia, fluid therapy, and supportive care. Clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment options, estimates, expected outcomes, and follow-up recommendations with pet owners. Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough electronic medical records. Work collaboratively with veterinary technicians, assistants, receptionists, and fellow veterinarians to provide efficient and compassionate patient care. Provide clear discharge instructions and coordinate follow-up with the patient's primary veterinarian or referral hospital when appropriate. Practice medicine in accordance with current standards of care, professional ethics, and applicable veterinary regulations. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an accredited veterinary school. Current New Jersey veterinary license or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey. Strong foundation in small-animal medicine and confidence evaluating common canine and feline illnesses and injuries. Ability to efficiently develop diagnostic and treatment plans for patients presenting without a prior diagnosis. Comfortable with common veterinary procedures such as venipuncture, catheter placement, sedation, wound management, and basic emergency stabilization. Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to discuss medical recommendations and costs with clients clearly and compassionately. Ability to remain organized and make sound medical decisions in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with veterinary support staff. Urgent care or emergency experience is preferred but not required .
