If so, the role of Veterinarian at Guiding Eyes might be right for you! As a member of our veterinary team, you'll play a critical role in supporting our mission. You'll practice high-quality veterinary medicine in a unique and rewarding environment, becoming an expert in the care of our Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds. From breeding to puppyhood, formal training, active guide work, and retirement, your expertise will ensure each dog receives the highest standard of care at every stage of life. You'll also work closely with our volunteers and graduate teams - and the relationships you build will be as meaningful as the care you provide. Because all veterinary services are provided at no cost to our Puppy Raisers and guide dog teams, you can focus entirely on what matters: delivering thoughtful, individualized care without the limitations of financial constraints. You will love working with our clients, and the feeling will be mutual! At our fully equipped, on-site Veterinary Hospital, you'll have access to everything you need to provide top-tier care. This position will primarily report to our Yorktown Heights, NY campus with travel to our Patterson, NY campus as needed . The Role Clinical Care & Treatment Perform comprehensive physical examinations and provide diagnostic, medical, surgical, and dental care, including but not limited to C-sections, spays, and neuters on large-breed adult dogs. Interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory results and imaging studies, to support accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing patient care. Develop and implement treatment plans for puppies, breeding dogs, dogs in training, and dogs selected for guide work, ensuring the highest standards of veterinary care. Provide veterinary expertise and recommendations to support the management of preventative care, acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and surgical cases. Administer vaccinations, preventatives, and other therapies in accordance with established protocols. Population Health & Preventative Medicine Support population health management initiatives across breeding, kennel, puppy, and training programs to promote overall canine health and wellness. Monitor disease trends and recommend preventative health strategies to maintain a healthy canine population. Uphold disease prevention, infection control, and biosecurity protocols while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient veterinary hospital environment. Collaboration & Communication Collaborate effectively with fellow veterinarians to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care through a respectful, team-oriented approach to case management. Communicate examination findings, diagnostic results, prognoses, and treatment recommendations clearly and compassionately to clients - including Puppy Raisers, Trainers, Graduates, and other stakeholders. Provide telemedicine support to Puppy Raisers, Trainers, and Graduates by responding to medical concerns and emergencies through phone and email consultations. Partner with cross-functional teams, including Genetics & Breeding, Whelping Kennel, Breeding Kennel, Training School Kennel, and the Puppy Program, to support organizational goals and successful canine outcomes. Records, Compliance & Quality of Care Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely medical records, documenting examinations, diagnostic findings, and treatments. Stay current on advancements, and best practices in veterinary medicine and integrate evidence-based practices into patient care. Organizational Leadership & Support Serve as a veterinary subject matter expert on committees, special projects, and organizational initiatives as needed. Support the Veterinary Department and organization-wide mission through additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Requirements Education & Licensure Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree) from an accredited veterinary school. Active veterinary license in New York State, or the ability to obtain licensure prior to employment. Clinical & Professional Skills Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess situations, prioritize needs, and make sound decisions in a timely manner. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment. Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, mission-driven setting. Communication & Collaboration Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to find a common purpose, build consensus, and foster collaboration across teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain veterinary concepts and recommendations to individuals with varying levels of medical knowledge. Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, integrity, and accountability. Technical & Physical Requirements Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs; Salesforce savvy a plus. Ability to safely handle, restrain, and lift dogs weighing up to 75 pounds Preferred Qualifications Experience in small animal general practice, shelter medicine, population medicine, or reproductive medicine. Experience working with breeding, kennel, or working-dog populations.
