Job Summary Berea ARF is seeking a compassionate and experienced licensed veterinarian to provide routine wellness care for shelter animals and support quarterly community vaccine clinics. The Contract Veterinarian will work collaboratively with shelter staff and volunteers to ensure the health and well-being of animals in our care while supporting the organization's mission of providing compassionate, quality care until every animal finds a forever home. Essential Responsibilities Shelter Wellness Care (One Day Per Week) Perform routine wellness examinations on shelter animals. Evaluate newly admitted animals and develop treatment recommendations as needed. Administer vaccinations and oversee preventative care protocols. Diagnose and treat minor illnesses and injuries within the scope of shelter medicine. Prescribe medications and review treatment plans. Perform health assessments for animals preparing for adoption. Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with veterinary standards. Consult with shelter staff regarding animal health concerns and care plans. Community Vaccine Clinics (Quarterly) Provide veterinary oversight for quarterly low-cost community vaccine clinics. Examine animals as appropriate and administer vaccinations. Ensure compliance with all applicable veterinary regulations and standards of care. Collaborate with volunteers and shelter staff to provide efficient, high-quality services to pet owners. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited veterinary school. Current Ohio veterinary license in good standing. DEA license (if applicable). Experience in shelter medicine, small animal practice, or community veterinary services preferred. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Commitment to animal welfare and Berea ARF's mission. Independent Contractor Status This position is an independent contractor arrangement and is not an employee position. The Contract Veterinarian is responsible for maintaining all required professional licenses, certifications, and liability insurance. Time Commitment Approximately one scheduled day per week for shelter wellness services. Participation in four (4) community vaccine clinics annually, with scheduling coordinated in advance. Additional consultation may be requested by mutual agreement. Compensation Compensation will be established through the independent contractor agreement based on agreed-upon daily or hourly rates and services provided.
