Job Description:
Longwood University invites applications for the Associate Athletics Director for Academics and Student Services (GA302) in Athletics. This person will be responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive academic service and enhancement program for Longwood University, including, but not limited to, academic counseling and development, tutoring services, monitoring NCAA athletics eligibility, and serving as department liaison to Enrollment Management, First Year Experience, Student Affairs, Registrar's Office, Academic Departments, and Dean's offices. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute a comprehensive academic services program for student-athletes within 16 intercollegiate programs. Lead, mentor, organize and develop staff, including Assistant Director, intern and graduate assistant. Counsel and mentor student-athletes on academic & personal success strategies/skills, NCAA academic eligibility requirements, course scheduling, degree requirements, declaration/change of majors in consultation with academic departments. Assess and implement programming for at-risk student-athletes to provide appropriate resources, mentoring, and coaching that contribute to the educational and personal growth of student-athletes. Assess and implement programming for first-year student-athletes academic performance and schedules, providing data, reports, and feedback to coaches and administrators on academic performance, assessments and strategies for development. Monitor academic progress, including NCAA progress towards degree, percentage of degree, and GPA requirements, of all student-athletes as well as the Academic Performance Rates for all 16 intercollegiate sports. Maintain accurate records and knowledge of student-athletes academic performance and schedules, providing data, reports, and feedback to coaches and administrators on academic performance, assessments and strategies for development. Coordinate registration for student-athletes during priority registration periods with consideration to NCAA academic eligibility requirements. Implement an effective and diverse tutoring program, including recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of quality tutors. Coordinate the distribution of books for scholarship student-athletes compliant with NCAA and University policies. Assist the Director of Compliance & Student Services, Registrar's Office, and Faculty Athletics Representative in certifying NCAA academic eligibility. Assist the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Administrator and Director of Compliance & Student Services in submitting Academic Performance Program and Graduation Success Rate data. Assist coaches and the Director of Compliance in evaluating prospective student-athletes and transfers, participating in official and unofficial visits as appropriate. Promote and maintain effective communication and partnerships with faculty, academic departments, coaches, and staff to promote the needs of the student-athlete and meet the strategic objectives of the department. Other administrative opportunities and duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Master's Degree in Educational Counseling, Education, Psychology, Sports Psychology, Sport Management or related field strongly preferred and professional experience in intercollegiate athletics preferred; or Bachelor's Degree required with significant training and experience Experience in a higher education setting, advising, counseling, and/or coordinating services for undergraduate student-athletes Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external groups at all levels of management Strong leadership and strategic management skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Extensive understanding of academic and administrative structure of Division I institution and appreciation for small liberal arts college environment and community Experience with Banner, GradesFirst, ARMS software, and Compliance Assistant preferred
Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. Annual salary range will be $75,000-$90,000. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
