Assistant Baker

Job Description

This full-time Assistant Baker position works alongside the Head Baker during weekly production and service, performing a wide range of baking and food service tasks. Recent employment as a food service professional is required. Previous experience or professional training as a baker, viennoisier, or pastry chef is highly preferred. The pay range is based on experience and ability. We are hiring 1-2 people for this position at 35-40 hours per week: Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday, depending on your availability and preference. Fridays and Saturdays start early for baking (4am), but the other days can be flexible around your schedule needs. This is a great place to work and learn, and we are always looking for the right people to invest in.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Pursue high standards, attention to detail, and consistency in everything you do.
  • Maintain clean equipment and workspace throughout all your duties, with close attention to sanitation, health code, and hygiene practices.
  • Accurately measure and mix doughs, fillings, and batters according to specifications.
  • Shape, scoop, form, and assemble pastries, cakes, cookies, pies, and desserts.
  • Prepare ingredients: chop vegetables, peel fruit, cook meats, pound butter, etc.
  • Assist with baking and oven management for retail, wholesale, and special order production.
  • Finish, basket, and package baked products for sale at the bakery and farmers market.
  • Complete side tasks when appropriate: dishes, deep cleaning, restocking, inventory, etc.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment and workflows.
  • Awareness and good practices with sanitation, hand washing, and self hygiene.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced setting with good time management and speed.
  • Be self-directed and proactive in completing assigned tasks independently.
  • Ability to move efficiently with others in a small kitchen and cafe.
  • Physically able to handle a variety of movements, frequent lifting, and standing for long periods.
  • Formal culinary school training is not required but appreciated and strongly considered.
  • ServeSafe and other certifications/licenses not required but appreciated.
