Little Loaf Bakeshop

Barista and Cashier

Job Description

About Little Loaf:
Hello! We're Little Loaf Bakeshop, a Hudson Valley-based vegan bakery that focuses on creating daily moments of joy through creative, high-quality pastries, desserts, breakfast and lunch items, and more. We are proud to be an LGBTQ+ and women-owned business.
What We're Looking For:
We are looking for a front-of-house (FOH) cafe team member who has both barista experience and customer service experience. You will be trained by our head barista on how we make drinks, but a few years working a La Marzocco or something similar is ideal! We'll also make sure you're up to speed on all things Little Loaf pastries.
Responsibilities Opening:
set up pastry display, brew coffee, make sure we're stocked on paper goods (cups, napkins, etc). Making drinks for customers, educate them about our products Taking care of the cafe / cleaning up the cafe Closing down the cafe: Don't worry there's a lengthy checklist :) It will involve helping with dishes, too! There might be some additional prep work needed if we need to make more sauces, as we make all of those in house. We'll show you how!
Schedule:
We are open 8am-4pm every day, with the first shift coming in at 7am and the last shift leaving by 5pm. We are also looking to open until 5pm weekends, with the last shift leaving at 6pm those days. Availability on weekends is essential. What You Bring to the Table This is a critical role for the face of our shop—and with our daily volume, we are looking for teammates who already have at least 1-2 years of professional barista or high-volume food service experience . You'll work closely with our lead to learn our specific workflow, but we expect you to be dialled in and running the bar confidently after your first few shifts. You'll be part of a small, fast-paced team (and occasionally holding down the fort solo), so you need to be highly organized, master the art of the "pivot," and know how to manage a line without breaking a sweat. Top skills you'll need:
Experience:
At least 1-2 years in a fast-paced cafe or FOH environment. You should already be comfortable with working a high-volume manual espresso machine (like a La Marzocco), and using a POS system.
Time Management & Multi-tasking:
You understand how to pace an order flow—starting the shot, steaming the milk, and acknowledging the next person in line simultaneously. You know the importance of "cleaning as you go" to keep the bar from becoming a disaster zone during a rush. Attention to
Detail:
You take pride in every latte art heart and every perfectly toasted pastry. You know how to balance speed with precision so that the 50th drink of the day looks and tastes as good as the first.
Solid Communication:
We use WhatsApp for scheduling and quick updates so we don't clutter your personal texts, but staying responsive and "in the loop" is a requirement.
Positive Energy:
Early morning shifts require a specific kind of spark. We need people who can bring warmth to the counter even before the caffeine kicks in.
Proactive Problem Solving:
We love fresh eyes. If you see a way to organize the milk fridge better or a way to speed up the condiment bar, we want to hear it.
Openmindedness:
Be ready to learn our specific recipes and service style. Stay open to feedback, challenge yourself to master a new skill, and always assume the best of your teammates and customers. How We Work / Our Values Help Each Other We actively look for ways to support our team, customers, and community while knowing when to ask for help ourselves. This fosters trust and makes work more enjoyable for everyone. Create Joy Pastries are inherently joyful, and we're lucky to work in a business that brings people happiness. Each market or event is an opportunity to brighten someone's day—whether through our products, a kind word, or a shared laugh. Try Something New We embrace curiosity and believe in Honesty, Openness, and Willingness (H.O.W.) to grow and evolve: Being honest about mistakes or areas for improvement. Being open to feedback and new ideas. Being willing to try new approaches, whether it's a process tweak or a completely fresh idea.
Salary Base Hourly :
