Food Safety and Compliance Assistant (Fresh Produce) Company Description Wiers Farm, Inc. is a 6th‑generation Grower, Packer, and Shipper of fresh vegetables with growing operations throughout the United States. Headquartered in Willard, Ohio, we distribute over 30 different produce commodities to retail, wholesale, foodservice, and institutional customers nationwide.
Position Summary:
Food Safety and Compliance Assistant We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Food Safety and Compliance Assistant to support our food safety and regulatory compliance programs at our Willard, Ohio location. Reporting to the Food Safety Director, this hourly position plays a key role in maintaining compliance with food safety standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations across growing, packing, storage, and shipping operations. This role is heavily focused on food safety documentation, audit preparation, employee training support, recordkeeping, and verification of food safety programs. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and capable of working across multiple departments to help ensure product safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Food Safety Program Support
Assist with implementation and maintenance of company food safety programs, policies, and procedures
Support compliance with audit, regulatory and customer requirements, and other food safety standards
Help verify that food safety programs are consistently followed throughout farm and packing operations
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to food safety and compliance Documentation & Record Management
Maintain accurate and organized food safety records, logs, forms, and databases
Review food safety documentation for completeness and accuracy
Collect, file, and archive records related to sanitation, traceability, employee training, equipment inspections, and corrective actions
Assist with document control and updates to food safety manuals and procedures Inspections & Monitoring
Conduct routine food safety inspections and observations of fields, packing facilities, storage areas, and equipment
Monitor compliance with sanitation, hygiene, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
Verify completion of required operational checks and food safety records
Report findings and assist with corrective action follow-up Audit & Regulatory Support
Assist in preparation for GFSI-benchmarked third-party audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections
Gather documentation and records needed for audits and assessments
Support implementation and tracking of corrective actions resulting from audit findings Customer & Supplier Compliance
Assist with completion and maintenance of customer food safety questionnaires, surveys and compliance requests
Gather and organize documentation required by customers
Collect and maintain supplier approval records and supporting documentation
Assist with supplier verification activities Training & Employee Support
Assist with food safety training for employees and seasonal team members
Help ensure training records are maintained and current
Reinforce food safety expectations and best practices throughout operations
Support onboarding activities related to food safety procedures Additional Responsibilities
Communicate food safety concerns and observations to management
Support special food safety projects and investigations as assigned
Perform other duties as needed to support food safety and operational objectives Qualifications Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
Ability to maintain accurate records and handle confidential information
Ability to work in both office and production environments
Must be able to walk fields and production areas, climb stairs, work in varying temperatures, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Preferred Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Agriculture, Biology, Quality Assurance or related field
Experience in food manufacturing, produce operations or food safety and quality assurance (FSQA)
Familiarity with GAPs, GMPs, PSR, FSMA, HACCP, or other food safety programs
Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills
Occasional weekend, holiday, and extended-hour work may be required during harvest, packing, audit, or peak production periods Job Type Full-time, hourly Location In person - Willard, Ohio Compensation $19.
50-26 per hour commensurate with experience
Pay:
$19.50 - $26.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
