Flour Child Bakery & Café is looking for a talented, creative and outgoing Head Cake Designer to join our bakery team. We're a locally owned, from-scratch bakery known for great food, creative products and doing things with a little personality. We've built a strong reputation and customer base, but cakes are an area we believe has huge potential for growth —and we're looking for the right person to help us build it. This is more than a traditional cake decorating position. We want someone with artistic flair, whimsy and ideas who gets excited about creating beautiful cakes, working with customers and helping turn our cake business into something much bigger. What You'll Do Design and decorate custom cakes, cupcakes and specialty bakery items Create fun, whimsical cakes for our display case, seasonal promotions and social media Work directly with customers to turn their ideas into memorable cakes Help customers select designs, flavors, sizes and options in person and by phone Work closely with our Bakery Manager to plan upcoming orders and cake production Help establish creative direction and consistent quality standards for our cakes Bring new ideas for designs, flavors, trends and products Help develop seasonal, wedding and special-event cake offerings Participate in bridal shows, events and other marketing opportunities to showcase our cakes and grow the business Occasionally assist with other bakery production as needed Who We're Looking For The right person will have: Strong cake decorating skills and an artistic eye Creativity and a genuine love for making things that are fun, beautiful and a little whimsical Excellent communication and customer service skills Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple orders and deadlines Confidence working both independently and collaboratively A positive attitude and desire to contribute new ideas An entrepreneurial mindset and excitement about helping grow this part of our business Weekend and holiday availability Professional bakery experience is preferred, but talent matters more to us than where you learned it. If you've developed your skills at home, through culinary school, as a cottage baker or in another creative setting, we'd still love to see your work. Experience with buttercream, piping, fondant, wedding cakes, custom cakes, sugar cookies, cupcakes, baking or customer consultations is a plus. A Real Opportunity to Grow Cakes are one of the biggest untapped opportunities at Flour Child. We aren't looking for someone to simply maintain what we're already doing. We want someone who sees the possibilities—new designs, wedding cakes, display cakes, seasonal offerings, bridal shows, social media and ideas we haven't even thought of yet. You'll work closely with our Bakery Manager, General Manager and ownership, with the freedom to bring ideas to the table and help shape where our cake program goes next. And if you help us grow it, we want you to share in that success. Increased responsibility, demonstrated results and growth of our cake business will create opportunities for increased compensation as the position develops. To Apply Please submit your resume or work history along with photos or a portfolio of cakes and decorating work you've personally created. A formal portfolio isn't necessary—photos are perfectly fine. We want to see your creativity and what you can do!
