A private family in Suffolk County is seeking a hardworking, detail-oriented, and service-minded Assistant Chef to join their long-standing household team. This is a full-time, hands-on position supporting the household's Executive Chef with both back-of-house and front-of-house responsibilities, including food preparation, kitchen and equipment care, meal service, and maintaining an exceptionally clean and organized culinary environment. Full-time, Monday through Friday working approximately 45 hours per week.
Schedule may vary between breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner service based on the family's needs.
Flexibility is important, as shift times may change.
Occasional weekend work will be required for parties and events. When a weekend day is worked, an alternate day off will be provided.
The primary work location is in Suffolk County, with occasional work required at the family's Manhattan residence.
Train fare will be reimbursed when travel to Manhattan is required. Responsibilities
Work directly under the household's Executive Chef, assisting with daily culinary, kitchen, and service responsibilities.
Assist with food preparation, including cleaning vegetables and mushrooms, picking herbs, butchery, baking, sous vide preparation, and cooking under the direction of the Executive Chef.
Assist with grill and charcoal fire setup and other cooking techniques as directed.
Independently execute predetermined menus on occasion when the Executive Chef is working at another location or during a different shift.
Receive, organize, and properly put away food and kitchen orders.
Pack, label, store, and organize food and prepared items appropriately.
Restock kitchen supplies and assist with maintaining food and beverage inventory.
Set up and break down the kitchen for daily meal preparation and service.
Maintain an exceptional standard of cleanliness throughout the kitchen, including equipment, work surfaces, dishes, and storage areas.
Manage dishes following lunch and ensure all clean and dirty dishes are properly addressed and returned to their designated places before dinner service.
Assist with daily snack preparation as requested, typically consisting of one or two courses.
Prepare pastries and/or fruit for the children's daily afternoon snack.
Set tables and prepare dining areas for meal service.
Assist with food and beverage service, including beverage preparation and service.
Serve meals in a semi-formal to formal manner, including announcing and describing courses as appropriate. Training will be provided on the family's preferred service style.
Clear and reset tables and dining areas following meals.
Polish and properly care for service pieces, glassware, and other dining materials.
Break down meal service, including dishes, glassware, trash, and recycling.
Clean and maintain coffee and tea machines.
Clean and break down the service kitchen and dining areas following meals.
Assist with parties, entertaining, and special events as needed.
Complete additional culinary, kitchen, and service-related responsibilities as needed.
Approximately 45% of the position will focus on kitchen, equipment, dish, and dining-area cleaning; 45% on food preparation; and 10% on food and beverage service. The Ideal Candidate

Willing to learn the family's preferred semi-formal and formal service standards.
Prior culinary, hospitality, restaurant, or private household experience is required.
Discreet, respectful, and comfortable working within a private household environment. Compensation & Benefits
$85,000 annual salary.
Three weeks of paid vacation annually, coordinated with the family's schedule.
Reimbursement for train fare when required to work at the family's Manhattan residence.
Eligibility to participate in a 401(k) plan after one year of employment. Employer matching is not provided.
