Job Description
About the Practice Margaret Greenough, MD is an established primary care practice in San Luis Obispo providing comprehensive, relationship-based care with a strong emphasis on communication, preventive wellness, patient advocacy, and continuity. The practice includes both concierge medicine and insurance-based primary care, supported by an experienced clinical and administrative team. We are seeking a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physician to join the practice and develop a long-term patient panel within an established private-practice environment. About the Opportunity The incoming physician will primarily practice within our concierge model, providing high-quality, comprehensive primary care with an emphasis on accessibility, prevention, continuity, and strong physician-patient relationships. The physician may also have the opportunity to care for Physicians Choice Medical Group HMO patients within the practice, depending on credentialing, payer participation, and practice needs Physicians with an existing patient following are strongly encouraged to apply. If you currently care for PPO, HMO, or private-pay patients who wish to continue seeing you, there is an opportunity for those patients to transition with you, subject to credentialing, and applicable medical-group arrangements. This is an ideal opportunity for a physician who wants the autonomy and relationship-building of private practice without taking on the administrative burden of building a practice from the ground up. Prior concierge medicine experience is a plus, but not required. Why This Opportunity The practice provides established infrastructure and support, including: Existing concierge practice model Clinical and administrative staff Medical assistant support Billing and practice-management systems Existing local patient demand Opportunity to build a concierge patient panel Potential to continue caring for an existing PPO or HMO patient following Manageable patient volume and thoughtful scheduling Greater time for patient communication, follow-up, and preventive care Collaborative physician-led environment Consistent daytime schedule and strong work-life balance Responsibilities Provide comprehensive outpatient primary care Develop long-term relationships with patients and families Provide concierge care within the practice's established model Manage preventive care, acute concerns, and chronic conditions Provide care to PPO and/or HMO patients as appropriate Review labs, imaging, medications, and patient communications Coordinate referrals and specialty care Provide telehealth visits when clinically appropriate Maintain timely and accurate documentation Communicate responsively with patients Collaborate with physicians, PAs, medical assistants, and administrative staff Participate in the continued growth and development of the practice Practice Style & Patient Volume This is a relationship-driven practice rather than a high-volume traditional primary care environment. The concierge model is designed to allow more time for appointments, communication, care coordination, prevention, and continuity. Patient panel size, insurance mix, and schedule will be developed thoughtfully based on the physician's interests, existing patient following, and the needs of the practice. Qualifications MD or DO Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Active or eligible for an unrestricted California medical license Strong primary care experience Excellent clinical judgment and communication skills Warm, professional, reliable, and highly patient-centered Comfortable practicing independently while collaborating within a physician-led team Interested in long-term patient relationships and relationship-based medicine Concierge or private-practice experience is a plus, but not required Existing local PPO, HMO, concierge, or private-pay patient following is a plus, but not required We are particularly interested in physicians who have considered concierge or private medicine but would prefer to join an established practice rather than independently build the operational and administrative infrastructure. Schedule The schedule and structure of the position can be developed around the right candidate. The practice generally operates during daytime weekday hours 9am-4pm and prioritizes a sustainable schedule, manageable patient volume, and strong work-life balance. Existing providers currently see patients 3.5 days per week. Full-time and thoughtfully structured part-time arrangements may be considered. Compensation & Benefits Compensation will be competitive and structured based on experience, schedule, patient panel, and the final design of the role. Benefits for eligible permanent employees include: 8 paid holidays 4 weeks of paid time off Health insurance with employer contribution toward premiums Dental and vision insurance Medical stipend Consistent daytime schedule Supportive, collaborative team environment Opportunity to build a long-term concierge patient panel within an established practice How to Apply Please apply with your CV or resume and a brief note describing your current clinical experience, availability, interest in concierge medicine, and what you are looking for in your next practice opportunity.
