Job Description

About the RoleThe Cook at Algona Middle School plays a vital role in preparing nutritious and appealing meals for students and staff, ensuring that all food is prepared safely and meets established quality standards. This position requires meticulous attention to detail in food preparation, portion control, and presentation to support the health and well-being of the school community. The Cook will collaborate closely with kitchen staff to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment while adhering to all food safety regulations. This role demands the ability to work efficiently during busy meal periods, managing time effectively to deliver meals promptly. Ultimately, the Cook contributes to a positive dining experience that supports student focus and energy throughout the school day.



Job ResponsibilitiesPrepare and cook meals according to established recipes and nutritional guidelines.



Ensure all food is handled, stored, and served in compliance with health and safety standards.



Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas.



Assist in inventory management by monitoring supplies and reporting shortages.



Collaborate with team members to coordinate meal service and accommodate special dietary needs.



Minimum QualificationsProven experience in food preparation and cooking in a commercial or institutional setting.



Ability to communicate effectively in English.Demonstrated manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks with precision.



Capability to stand for extended periods during meal preparation and service.



Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.



Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience working in a school or similar institutional kitchen environment.



Certification in food safety or ServSafe credential.



Familiarity with nutritional standards for children and adolescents.



Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.



Flexibility to adapt to changing menus and special dietary requests.



SkillsThe required skills such as food preparation and manual dexterity are essential for efficiently and safely preparing meals that meet quality standards. Proficiency in English enables clear communication with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth kitchen operations. The ability to stand for extended periods supports the physical demands of cooking and serving during busy meal times.
